7 Ways to Celebrate Singles Awareness Day

Being single doesn’t mean being lonely.

Singles Awareness Day has been on the pop culture radar for the past twenty years. Observed on February 15, it’s a day to acknowledge the single people in our lives and recognize that a person’s value is so much more than their relationship status.

Whether you’re single and loving it or fresh out of a relationship, celebrating Single’s Awareness Day may be just the thing you need after a long day of scrolling through Valentine’s Day posts.

Here are some of our favorite ways to observe Singles Awareness Day.

Treat Yourself

No one bought you flowers and chocolates on Valentines Day?

Buy them for yourself!

Just because you aren’t in a relationship doesn’t mean you don’t deserve nice things and kind gestures. Plus, when you buy them for yourself, you’ll always get exactly what you like.

Whether it’s a tasty treat, a new book, or an addition to your stylish wardrobe, you deserve to gift yourself something that makes you smile.

Even if a big purchase isn’t in the budget, treat yourself to an indulgent bath with candles, scented bubble bath, and a glass of wine. Or cook yourself your favorite meal.

You deserve to feel special and indulged, and you don’t need anyone else to make you feel that way.

Nurture Other Relationships

Instead of thinking about the kind of relationship that you don’t have, focus on the ones that you do.

A romantic relationship isn’t the only kind of relationship that can be meaningful and gratifying.

Kindle friendships and family bonds that bring joy to your life and let them know how important they are to you.

Call a family member for an overdue catch-up or bring dinner or a bottle of wine to a friend’s house.

Give Back

The world could always use a little more kindness.

On a day that can sometimes feel lonely, focus your energy on brightening someone else’s day.

Visit a senior center to keep a new friend company, or volunteer at an animal shelter to help socialize pets up for adoption.

Singles Awareness Day could be the perfect opportunity to go through your closet and donate any clothes you haven’t worn in a while. Donate anything you no longer need to your local shelter or donation center.

Focus your energy on doing good deeds and practicing compassion to instantly brighten your day.

Enjoy a Solo Activity

One of the best parts of being single is the ability to do what you want when you want.

On Singles Awareness Day, take on an activity that’s just for you.

Go to the movies and savor every bite of popcorn that you don’t have to share with anyone else.

Grab a book from your “to read” pile and curl up in a cozy coffee shop.

Visit a museum or botanical garden – basically anywhere you can explore at your own pace.

Bake a new recipe. Make a mess. Clean it up whenever you feel like it.

Create a piece of artwork following a YouTube tutorial or inspired by a Pinterest project. Display it somewhere you’ll see it.

The list of ways you can savor your own company is limitless. Whether you indulge in a favorite activity or try something totally new, enjoy taking some alone time.

Take a Digital Detox

You may be perfectly happy being single, but even the most romantic person can get tired of seeing everyone brag about their relationship on Valentine’s Day.

If you’re over all the lovey-dovey hearts, flowers, and proposals strewn across social media, do yourself a favor and detox from your apps.

You’ll be surprised how much better you feel once you’re disconnected from constant comparison.

If you can’t seem to stay away from screens, opt for a photo cleanse instead. Delete old pictures, screenshots, and duplicates from your photo roll to free up phone space.

Do Something Your Ex Hated, Just Because You Can

If a recent breakup has you feeling sour around Singles Awareness Day, celebrate the freedom you have now that your ex is gone.

Think of an activity they disliked or never wanted to do. Now, do it.

They hated the smell of sunscreen? Take a trip to the beach. Did they complain about large crowds? Spend a day at the theme parks. Were they anti-carbs? Take a trip to your favorite ice cream shop.

Without their opinion holding you back, the world is your oyster.

Remind yourself how sweet it can be to do something just because you want to.

Take a Trip

You know that vacation you’ve been wanting to take for years?

Maybe it’s time to book that flight.

Traveling solo is an amazing way to see the world. You’re in control of your itinerary and your budget, and navigating the world around you builds confidence and character.

You’ll learn so many new things about yourself throughout your journey one town over or across the globe.
