Things to Do at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The world could always use a little more magic.

Thankfully, Universal Studios has made it even easier to experience the wonder of pure magic with two – soon to be three – Wizarding Worlds.

A busy street surrounded by eclectic shops and buildings, including a three-story gray bank with columns and a fire-breathing dragon perched on top against a blue sky.

These incredible attractions immerse guests into the universe of Harry Potter, from the bustling and vibrant streets of Diagon Alley’s shopping district to the quaint village of Hogsmeade just outside Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Soon, Universal visitors will be able to explore the British Ministry of Magic, as well as 1920’s Paris inspired by the wizarding world of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Everyone from magical newbies to die-hard Potter fans can experience and enjoy Universal’s beautifully detailed and immersive Potter parks.

Here’s a thorough breakdown of things to do at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Diagon Alley

Universal Studios Florida

An empty cobblestone street at night, with glowing buildings with multi-paned windows lining the walkway. At the end, a crooked three-story building stands with a shadowed dragon on top.

Like Harry Potter himself, Diagon Alley was the first taste of the wizarding world for many of us muggles and magical folk alike.

This magnificent wizarding shopping district holds many secrets, mysteries, and wonders, including the crooked three-story Gringotts Bank with a fire-breathing Hungarian Ironbelly dragon perched atop the roof.

And yes, the dragon actually breathes fire every ten to fifteen minutes.

As music from the Potter films fills the streets with excitement and nostalgia, you can shop, dine, and test your wizarding abilities with your very own wand.

One thing is for certain: the magic of Harry Potter is alive and well in Diagon Alley.

Rides

An ornately patterned marble floor with dark and light grays surrounded by dark marble columns and tellers’ desks manned by goblins. Overhead hang two huge, sparkling chandeliers.

Diagon Alley is home to one ride: Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts.

This ride tells the story of Harry and Hermione’s escape from villain Bellatrix Lestrange’s Gringotts vault from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. There are, of course, a few other unexpected evil twists peppered throughout the ride.

This incredible indoor coaster features spectacular 3D cut scenes, 4D effects that will make you feel like a dragon is literally breathing down your neck, and plenty of thrilling drops, turns, and launches.

Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts has one of the most incredible queues in Universal Orlando, taking riders past sneering goblins in the grand bejeweled lobby to the depths of the bank below.

A large red and black steam engine labeled ”Howgarts Express” at an indoor train station with an arched glass and cement striped ceiling and a line of people waiting to board.

The only other ride you can access from Diagon Alley is the Hogwarts Express – and even then, you’ll have to exit Diagon Alley and make your way to the adjacent entrance to King’s Cross Station.

This incredible, immersive train ride is only available if you have park hopper tickets, since the train takes you directly into Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure.

The ride itself is slow and comfortable (and blessedly air conditioned on a hot day). It features appearances from familiar friends along the way.

Each train car’s window shows you the rolling British countryside as you travel, featuring recognizable characters, music, and landmarks.

The best part is that the ride from one park to the other is completely different based on which direction you’re going, so you get two unique Hogwarts Express experiences at Universal Orlando.

Shops

A storefront with two stories of bright orange windowpanes against a purple building with a tall redheaded man seemingly popping up out of the second story, tipping his hat.

In the Harry Potter universe, Diagon Alley is home to some of the oldest and most famous wizarding shops in the world.

You can visit many of them while wandering the area at Universal Studios Florida.

Some of the most recognizable stores include Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes, the passion project of playful tricksters Fred and George Weasley. At Universal, the Diagon Alley store is an exact replica of the set from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Inside the shop, you’ll find joke, prank, and magic items like Decoy Detonators, Umbridge on Unicycles, and Nose-Biting Teacups.

Ollivanders Wand Shop in Diagon Alley offers a truly magical interactive experience. Here, a guest is selected to test out wands in a sequence very similar to the Harry Potter books and films, complete with special effects.

The Ollivanders branch in Diagon Alley is much larger than its Hogsmeade counterpart and has plenty of wands available for every witch or wizard to purchase.

Once you’ve selected your wand – or rather, your wand has selected you – you can find various interactive touchpoints throughout Diagon Alley that allow you to conjure magical moments with a flick of your wrist.

Quality Quidditch Supplies sells brooms, sweaters, and a variety of sports-related merchandise from the Potter films. At Madam Malkin’s Robes for All Occasions, you can find a variety of clothing and accessories from Hogwarts robes to hats.

A very dark storefront with glowing lamps and displays of skulls, lanterns, and other creepy objects in the window.

Wizards intrigued by the Dark Arts can wander down the dimly lit Knockturn Alley toward Borgin and Burkes, which sells a variety of Death Eater apparel, shady collectibles, and objects with powerful and unusual properties.

When you need a refreshment, stop by Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlor for a cool treat with flavors like earl gray and lavender, sticky toffee pudding, and of course, butterbeer.

Shows

A woman with short brown hair in a sparkly light blue and beige sequined dress stands at a gold microphone with her hand on her hip and several out-of-focus backup singers in blue dresses out of focus behind her.

Tucked into a corner in the heart of Diagon Alley is a beautiful stage where you can find multiple performances throughout the day.

The first is a concert by Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees, a soulful crooner and her dazzling backup singers and dancers.

These jazzy shows typically last around 12 minutes, the perfect amount of time for taking a pit stop from your shopping, dining, and riding adventures.

The second performance you can find onstage at Diagon Alley is The Tales of Beedle the Bard, a beautiful puppet show recounting The Tale of the Three Brothers, a popular wizarding tale that tells the legend of the Deathly Hallows.

Dining

A dining room with long tables, high vaulted ceilings supported by crooked beams, hanging picture frames, and large groups of people dining.

The Leaky Cauldron may not look particularly impressive from the outside, but inside, you’ll find a beautiful British pub with a cathedral ceiling and wide stone archways.

Treat yourself to hearty English fare like Scotch Eggs, Bangers & Mash, Fisherman’s Pie, and the Ploughman’s, a feast of English cheese served with pickles, roasted tomatoes, crusty bread, and Scotch eggs.

Throughout Diagon Alley, you’ll also find kiosks like The Hopping Pot, where you can order Butterbeer and snacks, as well as The Fountain of Fair Fortune, which also sells refreshing Potter-themed brews.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Hogsmeade

Islands of Adventure

People walking through the cobblestone streets of a village with dozens of stone buildings with tall, pointed roofs and Hogwarts castle in the background.

Fans of Harry Potter will recognize Hogsmeade Village as the charming, quaint wizarding town just outside the perimeter of Hogwarts Castle.

In Islands of Adventure, this snow-covered village is always wintery and picturesque, even when the Florida sun blazes overhead.

Hogsmeade is also home to some of the most popular rides in the Wizarding World, as well as shops where you can cross off everything on your Hogwarts school supply list.

It’s also the only park where you can take in the majesty of Hogwarts Castle towering against the sky, so if seeing the school of witchcraft and wizardry is on your list of priorities, be sure you work in a visit to Islands of Adventure.

Rides

A large, gothic-inspired castle rising up from a wall of stone in the background with two large columns with winged boars standing before it.

Tucked into the castle itself is Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, an exciting ride that combines 3D movie scenes with incredible sets and physical effects for an immersive, multi-sensory experience.

On this one-of-a-kind ride, you’ll encounter dementors, spiders, whomping willows, and other thrills as you race alongside Harry, Ron, and Hermione to get to a quidditch game.

The queue for the ride is an adventure in and of itself. You’ll find yourself wandering through some of the most recognizable spaces in Hogwarts like Dumbledore’s office, the Gryffindor Common Room, and the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, all of which are brought to life with incredible detail.

People in a motorbike and sidecar-inspired coaster car zooming past a three-headed dog emerging from a rocky cave.

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is a “story coaster” that combines the narrative of joining Hagrid for a Care of Magical Creatures class with the thrills of a roller coaster.

With over a mile of coaster track, this ride is the longest roller coaster in the state of Florida.

Riders will find themselves twisting, turning, and launching through the Forbidden Forest among some of the wizarding world’s most bizarre and fascinating creatures.

The third ride exclusive to Islands of Adventure is Flight of the Hippogriff, a family-friendly roller coaster that reaches a mild top speed of 29 mph (as opposed to the 50 mph of Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.)

Zoom around Hagrid’s hut as you take in views of the snowy village of Hogsmeade and the cozy pumpkin patch.

Shops

A man and a girl dressed in wizard robes look up over a wall of hundreds of wand boxes, as the girl points a wand toward the ceiling.

Hogsmeade is a great spot to find the perfect souvenir to take home as a token of your wizarding adventures.

The stores here are smaller than their Diagon Alley counterparts, giving boutique vibes that can get a little snug on a busy day at Universal.

While Ollivanders Wand Shop is traditionally located in Diagon Alley in the Potter stories, Hogsmeade is also home to a branch of the famed retailer (when Hogsmeade first opened as the sole Harry Potter location in Orlando, Universal opted to place Ollivanders in the village for guests to enjoy.)

You can experience a similar wand selection ceremony at this location as the one in Diagon Alley.

At the end of the wand ceremony, you’ll be invited into Dervish and Banges where you can continue your search for the perfect wand.

Dervish and Banges is the place to pick up all of your Hogwarts attire and paraphernalia, including robes, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and banners.

Pick up your favorite sweet treats from Honeydukes, the famous sweet shop visited by Hogwarts students throughout the Harry Potter series.

Here, you can find magical treats like Chocolate Frogs, Acid Pops, Fizzing Whizzbees, Pumpkin Pasties, and so much more.

At The Owl Post, you can pick up stationary equipment like quills, ink, stamps, seals, and plenty of owl-themed merchandise.

Shows

A group of five people in Hogwarts robes stand on an outdoor stage flanked by colorful banners. Two of them hold frogs on red pillows with gold fringe.

Between Hogwarts Castle and the entrance to Hogsmeade Village, you’ll find an outdoor stage with two alternating performances throughout the day.

The Triwizard Spirit Rally features students from Durmstrang and Beaux Batons international wizarding schools in a performance that adds ambiance to the Wizarding World experience.

The second show is a concert from the Hogwarts Frog Choir, an acapella quartet featuring an accompaniment of several lifelike frog puppets.

Dining

Groups of people dining in a rustic lodge with a tall arched ceiling and a wall of hanging antlers in the background.

Just like in the Potter stories, The Three Broomsticks is the perfect place for refreshments in Hogsmeade.

This rustic tavern is a quick service establishment serving up British fare like fish and chips, beef pasties, and, if you arrive before 10:30 a.m., a traditional English breakfast with scrambled eggs, black pudding, grilled tomato, and baked beans.

While you can order a crisp, frothy cup of butterbeer in The Three Broomsticks, there are also several carts stationed in the streets outside peddling it for refreshment on the go.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic

Universal Epic Universe

Universal Orlando is on the cusp of opening their third Central Florida theme park: Universal Epic Universe.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic is one of five new worlds waiting to be explored on opening day, May 22, 2025.

This brand-new immersive environment will transport guests to two unique Harry Potter eras and destinations.

Rides

As you’re exploring 1920s Paris, you’ll be able to travel by Métro-Floo to the British Ministry of Magic in the 1990s.

Here, evil former Hogwarts headmistress Dolores Umbridge is awaiting trial.

Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry is the new Wizarding World’s primary attraction.

Riders will join Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Umbridge’s former house-elf Higgeldy on a journey through the depths of the Ministry, where some unexpected surprises and visitors await.

You’ll travel on a magical lift (elevator) with elegant red leather cushioned chairs and brass panels that moves in every direction for a first-class seat to the trial of the century.

This ride is another example of a spectacularly detailed queue, with passengers winding through the breathtaking Ministry atrium and around the golden Fountain of Magical Brethren.
